Hi there, i have exactly the same problem. The queue recieves the test pages i try to print and no error is output local machine. I fairly new to Linux but i think it's something to do with USB not working as i'm also trying to connect my BT ADSL modem via USB with no joy.
I keeo finding references to the HOTPLUG which should automatically pick up USB devices???? not for me !
Linux Printing is a good place to look for info on Linux printer issues. I had a similar problem with OfficeJet G55 (a usb printer). Had to install the hpoj driver. Not sure if this is relevant to your model, check HPOJ
