USB Keyboard won't work for bootloader, but does when I'm in Linux???

We have a USB keyboard. When the computer is started, we cannot select anything in the bootloader (GRUB) as the keyboard is not being recognized.

We set USB keyboard Enabled in BIOS. Still no luck.

However, if we switch to a ps/2 keyboard and boot into a Linux. Then switch back to USB keyboard from within Linux, the USB keyboard works fine. Why ????

Thanks for any help.

Maybe the USB keyboard support in your motherboard is buggy (?). What would happen, if you set a timer in the booloader (so that it loads Linux after a specified amount of time), then see exactly when does the keyboard becoma available?

I just went through this recently. Grub does not support legacy usb but lilo does.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what exactly is "Legacy USB?" I know what USB be is, where does the legacy part fit in? Also, if that is the case with GRUB, does that mean that my only option is LILO?
