USB Keyboard on Suse SLES 8

I had Red Hat 8 working with no USB problems. I wanted to testdrive Suse Enterprise Server so installed on a extra drive. The problem I'm having is the keyboard works up to the point of the login screen, then it's dead. Ironically, if I have a PS2 keyboard attached at the same time, the numlock lights on both keyboards work, based on the numlock status on the PS2 keyboard.

I've searched and tried the recommendations from Suse's support db. The keyboard has a built-in USB hub that my mouse is attached to, and it works perfect.

Please take a look below at some details I've pasted in. I see some lines in the dmesg output at the bottom that state a usb device is not claimed by any active driver. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Here's what I have:

# kernel version
# uname -r
2.4.19-4GB

# modules loaded

It was a problem with either. I actually just fixed it by modifying the /etc/hotplug/usb.rc file. I added "rmmod hid" and "insmod hid" to the start function. I tried several other suggestions I found on different forums, but this is the only thing I've found that worked.

Thanks for the reply. If you have another kludgey suggestion, please let me know...

That was supposed to be non-kludgey suggestion...
