usb keyboard on laptop

hi! I have this usb keyboard here and my laptop's kb is not 100% anymore so i decided to give it a try... the device is recognized by the system:

usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using address 2
hub 1-1:1.0: USB hub found
hub 1-1:1.0: 3 ports detected
usb 1-1.1: new full speed USB device using address 3
input: USB HID v1.10 Keyboard [Dell Dell USB Keyboard Hub] on usb-0000:00:07.2-1.1
input: USB HID v1.10 Device [Dell Dell USB Keyboard Hub] on usb-0000:00:07.2-1.1

And i can use my usb mouse thru its hub... but the kb doesnt work at all. What can be wrong? Thanks for any help.

There may be BIOS settings you need to fiddle with. Here's another thread that might be of use:

I just realized that the usb kb cant be used it i try too hotplug it. I need to have it plugged during kernel boot up... so, right now, if i plug it i will have it recognized by the kernel as in the beginning of the thread but i wont get it to work. Why is that? Can anyone help me? Is that another Conectiva bug?
