USB Keyboard not detected while booting


Hi all,

I have just installed RHEL WS, everything was fine but after the boot process, my system doesn't recognize my keyboard(USB). I tried booting it through a PS/2 Keyboard and it got detected. but now what should i do to use my USB keyboard..Hope i ll get some help.

P.S: Im a newbie...

The easiest way is to go into your BIOS and see if you have an option called "Legacy USB" or something alone those lines. This will tell your motherboard to emulate a PS/2 keyboard rather than report the keyboard as USB, which will then work under operating systems that can't handle (or are having some problem handling) USB input devices, like MS-DOS.

Thank you very much indeed for your reply... but What exactly do you mean by go into BIOS? should i check grub.conf ? please could you be bit explainable (coz im a newbie.. )

No, before the grub menu, hit the key that gets you into the BIOS setup program.

Just after powering up, there should be a message on a key to hit to enter bios. Another one to hit to select a different boot device.

Besides that; look at what kernel modules are loaded.

lsmod | grep -i usb
There should be one called usb_core or usbcore; and another called usb_hid. If not try:

sudo /sbin/modprobe usb_hid
You may also need ohci_hcd, ehci_hcd or uhci_hcd.

Also try restarting the HAL daemon and the dbusd daemon.
