usb keyb and mouse randomly stop responding

using fedora 7 on an acer aspire 5101
the keyboard and mouse sometimes completely hang. i cant even get an lsusb output at this stage.
ohci_hcd appears to be related as attempting to remove this module just hangs and does nothing.
using a logitech keyboard and cheap optical mouse through a hub into one of the ports of the laptop.

lsusb of when it does work:
Code:
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 006: ID 0603:00f2 Novatek Microelectronics Corp.
Bus 003 Device 005: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc.
Bus 003 Device 007: ID 15ca:00c3
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 067b:2506 Prolific Technology, Inc.
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 0402:5602 ALi Corp.
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode)
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
it doesnt make sense as when i unplug the hub then replug the keyboard and mouse remain dead but have power. no num lock or caps lock response on the keyboard either.

2.6.22.9-91.fc7 #1 SMP Thu Sep 27 23:10:59 EDT 2007 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

all help and suggestions would be greatly received.

Can't be sure, but I bet you're having a similar problem that I am. For me, the fix was to get rid of that POS USB hub that lists as: 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc.

What a PImA! that thing is!

Soon as I get rid of it, all kinds of weird stuff stopped and things started working again.

In fact, I found this post by googling up the 05e3:0608 identifier - hoping someone had found a way to make this steaming pile work like it's supposed to.

Now, to find an inexpensive hub that actually works.
