USB IRDA device troubles on FC2
Hi all,
I have been trying to connect my Motorola Timeport (L-series) GSM phone to my desktop using a Sweex IRDA USB infrared device (supposedly identical to the Sitecom interface, at least using the same KC-180 chip-set). Thus far I have been unsuccessful in communicating with my GSM phone, which carries an AT-compatible modem through its infrared port. I use Fedora Core 2 which has the “irda-usb” driver embedded by standard. My aim is to use the GNOKII application set for managing the mobile phone (address lists, etc).
The various Linux message logs show no IRDA-related error messages: the IRDA USB device was properly recognized, and the “irda0” device was activated. The "irdadump" utility did show my Motorola GSM, as well as my Palm Vx PDA (after starting, killing and starting the application again, as instructed by the Sitecom documentation -- very strange), but further attempts to access the phone using "minicom" to issue AT commands through /dev/ircomm0 led to nothing. A similar exercise under Windows XP using the native terminal software (HyperTerminal) was successful.
I have read just about anything there is to read about Linux and IRDA support and I think I followed up on every useful instruction, but so far no success. I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance for your help, and best regards,
Bart van Dijk
