usb iomega zip cd 650 problems burning

OK, first real post for help, i feel kinda ashamed cause for the last year i have been able to figure out most problems myself with the help of LQ and a little with google.com/linux but anyways here it goes

i have a usb (1?) iomega zip cd 650 (model is zipcdusb)
mounting and reading a CD works
however, burning a CD dose not result in any errors that i can see, but it never happens, and after a burn attempt, it usually makes the normal "trying to load the CD" sounds and dose not respond to commands from the system

the normal mounting device is /dev/sr0

the full lsusb output is:
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 059b:0050 Iomega Corp. Zip CD 650 Writer
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 046d:c508 Logitech, Inc.

the dmesg shows nothing that i can see relating to the iomega zip cd 650 burner so i will omit it here, unless someone requests it

system is a compaq Presario 700 a, running slackware 10.1 and a 2.4.29 (standard barei kernel from install)

p.s. after doing some reading, one place suggested putting:
append="hdd=ide-scsi"
into my lilo.conf, if i understand this, it is enabling scsi emmulation and should move my burner from /dev/sr* to a /dev/hd* ?

if i need to give out more information, please ask,
thank you

hdd=ide-scsi is to use the scsi emulation layer for the hdd device. Is there NOTHING about sr0 in dmesg? (dmesg | grep sr0)

First off, thank you for your reply,
I didnt notice this before, (dont know how cause its repeated about 50 times)

the dmesd | grep sr0 :
sr0: CDROM (ioctl) error, command: 0x00 00 00 00 00 00
Current sr00:00: sns = 70 3
*repeated*

I will say i am fairly new (newb) at thins, and no idea what the error is, however right after i post this ill start googling, any insight in the meantime?

after reading another suggestion from google, i set the burn speed to 1X still no luck, however, i copyed the debug message from k3b
:
Devices
-----------------------
IOMEGA ZIPCD 650 USB I1.1 (/dev/sr0, ) at [CD-R; CD-RW; CD-ROM] [Error] [TAO; RAW; SAO/R16]
TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2502 1011 (/dev/hdc, ) at /mnt/cdrom [CD-ROM; DVD-ROM] [DVD-ROM; CD-ROM] [None]

System
-----------------------
K3b Version: 0.11.20
KDE Version: 3.3.2
QT Version: 3.3.3
Kernel: 2.4.29

mkisofs
-----------------------
176

the error with the devide that the debug shows makes me wonder, any thought on how i would figure that error out, or could it be the same as the dmesg

I don't see the error in the debug message, but maybe I'm missing it. Honestly, I've never seen that type of the error at the top, but I'll look into it some and post anything I find here.
