USB Headset Mic not working

I have a Plantronics CS50-USB headset and a built on soundcard "HDA Intel (Alsa Mixer)" I am trying to use the Mic on the USB headset but it is not recording any sound. I am running Ubuntu Ibex 8.10 (newest version).

I have gone into the Gnome Volume Control, selected the USB headset, clicked the recording tab. The microphone is turned all the way up, it is unmuted, however the toggle audio recording from microphone has a red x on it. Everytime i unclick the red X and go back into the volume control it has a red x on it again.

I'm not sure if this is the problem, but when i go the puleaudio volume meter with the USB Audo i see no activity when talking to the Mic.

If anyone has any ideas on what i could try to fix this i would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Well...it sounds like a settings issue with pulseaudio or alsa, whatever you are using. Unfortunately, I've never been able to sort out usb vs integrated audio, and get it to work. The only way I've been able so solve this problem is to go into the bios and disable the integrated audio altogether, forcing Linux to use ONLY the usb audio devices. Is it the best solution, the "right" solution ? Nope. Does it work, yup. If anyone else knows of an easier way to do it, just let me know.

Good luck....

David
