USB external hard disk becomes read only after running for a while.

Hi
I am using 2 Seagate usb harddisk of 1TB size each for taking backups, connected to my dell desktop through USB . Even after mounting the disks as rw and that being shown in the mount command , the disks become readonly after some duration of running. This duration is anything between 15 mins to upwards.
I have tried mounting them with default as well as explicit option of read/write and all, it works fine for sometime , then goes readonly.

The details of the OS and stuff are as below

Kernel
2.6.18-128.el5PAE

Version
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.3 (Tikanga)

lsusb output
Bus 001 Device 009: ID 0bc2:3008 Seagate RSS LLC
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 0bc2:3008 Seagate RSS LLC

mount output
/dev/sdb1 on /backup type ext3 (rw)
/dev/sdc1 on /backup2 type ext3 (rw)

Also sometimes any one disk automatically changes its drive letter from sdb/sdc to sdd thus making it unaccessible.

dmesg output

Hi Itsakc, could you try this little app posted on http://deaglecito.blogspot.com/2009/...-led-idle.html , and try disabling the timeout?
Let me know if it worked or you need help .

Best Regards
