USB devices dont seem to be connected
Hi all. I am far less than a newbie. I am trying to use Mandrake 9.1 and had it installed successfully before I had a windows instigated crash.
I recently bought a XH1148 usb modem from Dick Smiths and downloaded the driver and entered the adress in the address bar etc as advised in the readme and it was working very well. After the crash I reinstalled the same driver but the connection was refused when I entered the configuration adress into the adress bar. I went into mandrake control in the configuration and under USB devices it doesnt show anything at all. I have downloaded USBview and will try that shortly but my question is how do I activate the usb ports? Or is there another way to configure the modem than the adress bar. I have tried mozilla and konqueror. Any help appreciated. |
well, you could use lsusb and lspci to see if your hubs and devices are located by the kernel.
and sift through dmesg. I doubt this help any if you are not new to Linux. And this will probably only establish a sense of the USB hosts hubs being usuable. Not the actual usb modem. |
Thats a good start though. Thanks
|
this is another long-shot but one time i spent hours trying to get my box to recognize my digicam with a USB connection and in the end it was all because my USB ports were turned off in the BIOS... lol, sometimes you overlook the simple things....
|
if dmesg or lspci list any USB hubs then they are enabled in the bios.

I used the command dmesg | more and it returned this:
