usb device stops working when acpi=off

I am using 2.6.8.1 built from source.
My USB key stops working when booting with acpi=off, I get:

ehci_hcd: probe of 0000:00:1d.7 failed with error -95

When booting the same kernel without that option, the error is gone and I can mount my USB device..

What is the problem here?
thanks
m.
