USB Device listing in lsusb
 

Hi,

There is no device connected to any of the external visible USB ports but still lsusb lists the following..

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0409:005a NEC Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Can someone please explain How this Device "NEC Corp" is being shown here inspite of no device being connected to the USB Port?

I even tried searching the for the Device ID "0409:005a".. Though 0409 is registered as NEC, I was unable to find an entry for 005a.

Please help.

On my Toshiba laptop, the bluetooth device shows up in the same way - that is, bluetooth is connected to the usb internally.

Bus 001 etc.... Toshiba

Do you know whether any internal services are connected to usb on your system.

Actually that is the problem. I don't know if any devices are internally connected to the USB Bus.

Based on the Vendor ID & Product ID 0409:005a NEC Corp., I tried to search what device it could be. But I am unable to find any tangible information.

What is your hardware? Which distribution are you using?

Did you unmount your device properly or does it show up after boot? Can you connect any USB device on the ports and do an lsusb to see what it shows?

Are you using a laptop or desktop - I am guessing a laptop - what make is it - what does the manufacturer say about it.

I guess you have tried

lspci -v
dmesg
lsmod

/var/log/messages
/var/log/syslog
/var/log/debug

KInfoCenter may provide some clues if you are using KDE.

These may be helpful in determining what hardware may be present, although not immediately evident.

It seems it is a USB Hub Device which is manufactured by NEC Company.

What a does a USB Hub do? Can somebody throw light on the same?

There is a root hub in each desktop/laptop to which downstream the two/four USB ports are attached. It regulates USB traffic between the devices and the host.
