USB - /dev/sda1 is not a block device
I have been working on this for a while.
Distro - Mandrake 9.1 kernel - 2.4.21-0.13mdk camera - Kodak DX4330 I just followed the instructions in the Digital Camera HOWTO. When I run the script to move the pictures from the cameras smart card to the computer I get the following: mount: /dev/sda1 is not a block device Initializing USB controller (usb-uhci): [ OK ] mv: cannot stat `/mnt/camera/dcim/100msdcf/*.jpg': No such file or directory umount: /mnt/camera: not mounted Heres some info: From lsmod: usb-uhci 24652 0 (unused) usbcore 72992 1 [usb-storage usb-uhci] From modprobe usb-storage: usb.c: registered new driver usbdevfs usb.c: registered new driver hub usb-uhci.c: $Revision: 1.275 $ time 15:32:56 Mar 14 2003 usb-uhci.c: High bandwidth mode enabled PCI: Found IRQ 9 for device 00:07.2 usb-uhci.c: USB UHCI at I/O 0x1020, IRQ 9 usb-uhci.c: Detected 2 ports usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1 hub.c: USB hub found hub.c: 2 ports detected usb-uhci.c: v1.275:USB Universal Host Controller Interface driver usbdevfs: remount parameter error hub.c: new USB device 00:07.2-1, assigned address 2 and Initializing USB Mass Storage driver... usb.c: registered new driver usb-storage USB Mass Storage support registered. usb.c: USB disconnect on device 00:07.2-1 address 2 and hub.c: new USB device 00:07.2-1, assigned address 3 usb.c: USB device 3 (vend/prod 0x40a/0x555) is not claimed by any active driver. usb.c: USB disconnect on device 00:07.2-1 address 3 From fstab: /dev/hda1 / ext3 noatime 1 1 none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0 /dev/hda6 /home ext3 noatime 1 2 none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/hdc,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0 none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=auto,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0 I confess that I don't know what I am doing. Why is sda1 not in the fstab file? Do I need to manually put it in? Sorry for the long post but I figured too much info up front is better than too little. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks, Randy |
try /dev/sdb1. else See if gphoto or kphoto can find it. New program is GTKam (Gphoto2).

I tried GTKam. It recognized the camera correctly but didn't read from the card. I got nowhere with gphoto.

I added
/dev/sda1 /mnt/camera vfat noauto,users,umask=0 0 0 to /etc/fstab. I rebooted with the camera attached to the USB port. I started GTKam and I get the following message: A window comes up titled "Could not claim USB device" the message within the window reads "Could not list folders in "/" ". Any ideas what that's about? Since adding the new line to fstab the following line has appeared when I run modprobe usb-storage: usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x40a/0x555) is not claimed by any active driver. I've no idea what it means. I'm really fumbling with this. Since adding the new line to fstab an icon has appeared on the KDE desktop. Its title is "Hard Disc (sda1) (not mounted). When I right click and select mount I just get an error message saying "mount: /dev/sda1 is not a block device" Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Randy |
I haven't try it but try /sbin/modprobe sd_mod before inserting the USB device. Also try /sbin/modprobe scsi_mod.
