USB & NIC don't work with Fedora 2

I've just upgraded from Redhat 9 to Fedora 2, and neither my NIC card (a 3com 3c905c) nor my USB are working any more. lspci shows both, and I think that dmesg tells me that usb is being set up, but it doesn't mention the NIC at all. I've got a KB and mouse plugged into the USB port, and the mice don't even light up, much less work. When I look at my config file, it seems to have all the right stuff turned on for USB. For the NIC, there is no module for that 3com part, but in the config file CONFIG_NET_VENDOR_3COM=y. Should that cover this board, or do I need to find a module somewhere for it?

Thanks in advance for any help. This stuff has taken a long time, and I haven't made much progress.

Here is the lspci output:

and the dmesg output (it mentions the ps2 mouse, but I'd really like to move back to my usb mouse and kb)

When someone enable CONFIG_NET_VENDOR_3COM, there are many 3com drivers you can modulized or hard coded in the kernel. If your kernel is set to load modules, you can go to Intel's site and download the 3com driver. You can also download it from 3com's site. Folllow the instructions to install it. You will need a compiler and kernel source code that matches your kernel version. This should on your CDs.

Linux already loaded up the key modules for USB. What is the name, brand, and model of the USB devices you are trying to setup?

The modprobe command doesn't work. I looked in lib/modules/kernel/drivers/net and it's not there, so I guess I need to find one, unless it's covered by the vendor_3com one. I looked at 3com's web site and they've got a very old one, for kernel 2.2 or so. Will that work?

The USB devices are a logitech mouse and keyboard.

Thanks again.

OK. I've got the NIC working now. Turns out that "modprobe 3c59x", followed by "ifup eth0", does the job. I guess the 3c905c is close enough to the 3c59x.

Stil no joy on the USB issue. Any ideas?

Closure! It all works now.

It turns out that the installation had created several different /etc/modprobe.conf* files. Modprobe.conf was empty. Modprobe.conf.anabak had the two key lines I needed:

alias eth0 3c59x
alias usb-controller uhci-hcd

When I mv'ed that file to modprobe.conf, life became good again.

Perhaps this happened because I did an "upgrade" install, instead of a fresh install?

Thanks again to those who responded.
