usb agfa snapscan stoped working

Hello
I have had my USB agfa snapscan running for a while now on my RH 8 set up .
But now it just doesnt work any more with any apps be it gimp or xsane etc
I reeinstalled xsane but to no avail .
the message I get is
failed to open device 'snapscan/dev/usb/scanner0'
Invalid argument.

I had a look at the
file:/etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf

which i am posting here .
funnily enough if i chose scanner1 or 2 i get the same message so maybe this is the wrong config file to modify .

In the SANE doc it says to edit /usr/local/etc/sane.d/dll.conf..
but this file is not there nor anywhere on the system

I cant understand why it just stopped working..
its a real pain.

I plugged the scanner in a XP box and it worked ok .

Allso in k control center USB devices its declared in there agfa snap scan
so if any body has an idea

mean while here is my /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf file

notice i uncommented out the
Agfa 1212U
usb 0x06bd 0x0001
usb 0x06bd 0x2061

lines

should I uncomment them all out

Hi Phil,
I have exactly the same problem. The scanner worked fine for one day but the next nothing. I sure hope someone comes along soon to help with this.

I'm using Mdk 9.2. I've tried just about everything.I'm about ready to buy a new scanner but I do like the e26 on the other machine(windowsXP) What version do you have?

hi

Im Using RH 8
its a real pig

but its still more stable then
windows.
I gave up with the scanner
i plugged it into my windows PC just for graphic work

You mean mandrak linuk

that seems to run nice .

My solution

Hey Phil

I ran into similar problems setting up my g/f's Agfa E20 under mdk 9.2 over the weekend. Looking at your original post I think you need to include a 'firmware' entry up near the top of your snapscan.conf file - it should reference a full path to the scanner driver which you'll need to get from your scanners resource CD.

There are a couple of other wrinkles that might catch you out but I cover them in this post elsewhere on the forums:

Hope this helps
