I have been having a lot of problems with USB devices. The only things I have ever tried to use are a compacflash card reader and a webcam. Both have caused me headaches. One recent problem that has cropped up is stopping me from trying anything else:

If I plug a digital camera, flashcard reader or whatever into the USB port the keyboard stops working. When I unplug it it is fine. So I tried it on another machine at work, that one just jams up completely as soon as anything is plugged into the USB port.

Both machines are running Debian. Any ideas?

I'm still unable to use USB devices because they stop my keyboard from working. I was advised by a friend to change the IRQ settings in the BIOS. I've had a look and haven't a clue what to change. Come on, can't anyone point me in the right direction?
