Unable to load Linux (Dual booting with windows) in HP Pavilion w5030 Desktop

Recently, I purchased a HP Pavilion w5030in Desktop with wireless keyboard and mouse. The system specifications are
Intel P4 2.93GHz / 1MB L2 Cache/ 256MB / 80GB SATA/ DVD Writer/ Spk / Windows XP. I made partitioning in the hard disk to make the system dual bootable with windows and linux. Tried with Redhat linux and Mandrake, but they are not supporting the wireless mouse. Then I tried Mandrake with an external convensional mouse, still could not install linux, it gives error message. Please advice me how I can load linux in this machine and which version of the linux will be suitable for this machine.

Could you post the error messages that you get please.

Also, have you checked the HCL on this site to see if your wireless mouse has been reported as compatible with linux?

My mouse is HP. I checked the HCL in this site, in that under category HP, it shows that "This category does not contain any products". The wireless mouse for other comapies (Belkin) are listed. If linux does not support my wireless mouse, can I use an external USB mouse or Ps/2 mouse?

I am able to boot the system with CDs of Mandrake. Booting messages and the cursor of the wireless mouse also are coming, but not able to click on any button. Then I tried with an external PS/2 mouse attached, then clicking on the buttons are possible. Then it asked for the selection of the programs to load. After selection and pressing OK, it started to give the message "unable to load file 'files.....'."

From today onwards, for one week, I am out of the office, where I kept my PC. So, I may be able to check it again after one week only. You may please advice me how it can be done successfully. I am badly in need of linux in my machine since this is the peak time of my Ph.D. work.

HP are well kown for useing there own hardware wich isnt compatable with ANYTHING other than the windows installation that im guessing is on a restore partition somewhere else on your hard-drive.. (god they bug me), but you may find its your mother boards mouse controller.... not the mice. I have come across this before, and even with windows... you could have problems, because i didnt want the windows os that was on the restore partition so used a fresh install disk.... and some parts still wouldnt work even with drivers and stuff.
