Unable to Increase Monitor Resolution
Hi All:
Have searched from yesterday for a solution no luck so far. My problem is this: WANT TO INCREASE DISPLAY RESOLUTION FROM THE 800 X 600 SETUP. I have a NVIDIA GeForce FX5200XT AGP Display Card. Have installed latest driver and it is fine so far. Have ran GPL Graphics test. Monitor is NOT detected. This is a TFT-LCD from Samsung model 174v. I am running Red Hat Enterprise v4 AMD 64 flavor. Have tried editing xorg.conf and adding the refresh data for the monitor and the 1024 x 768 resolution. Result: IT CRASHED X System. Could a kind soul with a driver and monitor similar and running the 2.6 kernel post hist xorg.conf setting for reference??? Thanks!. |
Did you use this
30-85 for horz 56-75 for vert |
Yes. The dpms settings is the same for LCD's?
Thanks for replying. p.d. BTW there seems to be a problem with the nvidia driver because after installed fined the first time. I uninstalled and reinstalled after the x system crash. Now it gives an error message |
Post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Hi:
Well. I managed to fix the problem. BUT, I have another one. Now I have even greater resolutions available. I might have been confused somehow by the gui tabs. Anyway, to debug the situation I edited the /etc/inittab to run level 3 so IF I mess sometime I can fix. Level 3 leave you at the # prompt user have to type STARTX to get into the gui. My problm NOW is I am receicing: (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA Kernel module! HOWEVER, IF I do a: # modprobe nvidia The driver initializes! and with STARTX I have the GUI working nicely even the glxgears from a terminal works! Problem is nvidia files are not being created at /dev Have to search now for this one. Any idea will be appreciayed! Thanks! p.d. After fixing this I just need to edit the inittab for runlevel 5 to get the GUI in the boot sequence. BTW. horz was 30 to 81. |
