Try bringing up a terminal and typing the command 'lspci -v' (without quotes). Post the output here. This should tell us what the sound card model is, which will help in figuring out how to use it.

Is there any particular reason that you're using Fedora Core 3? It is a couple of years old and no longer updated by Red Hat. The current release is Fedora Core 7, which includes more recent drivers, so you may well find that installing Fedora Core 7 instead of 3 fixes the problem.

My best bet is that your motherboard is newer than FC3. So FC3 does not know how to deal with your chipset. I would advise switching to a more current version. Fedora 8 (core was retired with FC6) is the current version.

vsraditya 12-11-2007 01:33 AM

ok Laz, thanks for ur advice. But isn't there any other solution to this problem like upgrading just the sound drivers, because that is the only problem in my linux.

Also, could you tell me whether FC is available as an opensource so that i can download it from the internet.

lazlow 12-11-2007 11:21 AM

Fedora is completely open source. If anyone tries to charge you (other than a media and shipping charge) they are scammers.

http://fedoraproject.org/get-fedora

As Fedora is a work in progress and not a product as such, each version is supported only for a limited time. FC3's time has long since passed. I think that you will be amazed at the improvements from FC3 to F8.

Good Luck
Lazlow
