Unable to detect SATA controller when installing RHEL 4/5/5.1

Hello,

I am unable to install RHEL AS 4/5/5.1 on my PC. The configuration is as below
Motherboard---Nvidia GeForce --with 1 IDE and 4 SATA controllers
Hard Drive ---- SATA Seagate 160GB
Processor -- Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4mhz
RAM----1 GB
When installing I get the following error :
No Devices found. An error has occured. No drives found on which to install file system....
I could not installed these RHEL versions on VMWare also. Though I have Ubuntu 7.1 up and running.
I tweaked BIOS settings adn Set sATA controllers to AHCI or Linux AHCI. It finishes the installation without any errors now but on rebooting it does not boot linux or any other Operating system such as Windows XP.
I formatted the whole drive, removed win xp and all other linux distros, and installed a fresh copy of RHEL 5 successfully. But on reboot, it gives an error : DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
And When I tweak the BIOS settings back to default SATA Controller settings to IDE, it halts at RHEL boot.
When I try to install Windows, it does not even boot with cdrom.
So, above all I cannot install either Windows XP or RHEL AS.

I want to no how to change the IRQ settings or do "IRQPOLL", if it can help me in anyways. Including IRQPOLL option with installation can help detecting the drives to some extent.

Please tell me How to install RHEL versions on my current configuration along with Windows from this point.

Appreciate anyone's quick response.

basharath2,

Hope you have installed Windows already and it is working. Keep your BIOS settings to default for the SATA controllers.
To include a SATA HDD , while starting your installation., boot through your first CD , it will leave you at boot:
Code:
boot: linux all-generic-ide noapic nolapic
and then press enter. This will load the needed drivers for SATA.

ok, I will try this. I have installed nvidia SATA drivers when asked and it did the same thing previously. Let me check with your option.
