I've installed Feisty on my Acer Aspire 3003 WLMi, and my Ethernet controller does not receive an IP address from my router (DHCP). This is the output of dmesg:

Everything works fine if I pass "acpi=off" as a parameter at boot time.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that that kernel you're using is quite buggy. Try upgrading. ACPI shouldn't be a problem for this tho...
On my Slackware box I don't mind compiling my kernel, but on Ubuntu I rather don't. I always get the feeling components are much more interconnected than on Slackware due to apt. Maybe I should give Slackware a try on my notebook too.
