UEFI vs. BIOS install - Which one should I choose?
Hello, I'm setting up this computer with an ASUS P8H77-M PRO motherboard, which has both UEFI and BIOS capabilities.
The question is, is it worth to use UEFI? Are there any real advantages, considering I want to multi-boot many distros? Is it good idea to use GRUB2 or I'll have to install several .efi loaders? I'm used to BIOS/GRUB2 for a multiple distro installation (which is what I'm planning to do here too). Thank you |
My plan is to stick with Grub as long as I can. By the time we are forced off Grub, there will be a much bigger body of knowledge to draw on.
If I find myself with a good chunk of time, I would play with UEFI for a learning thing. But not with anything I need by tomorrow :) There's my thoughts ! |
Hi ceyx,
Do you know that you can use GRUB2 with with UEFI too? If you use UEFI, you need to install a GRUB2 .efi image file to the ESP (Efi system partition). But I don't know what should I do, if use GRUB2 and efi, or GRUB2 and bios, that's my question. Will it boot faster or something if I use Grub2+uefi? So far I can't find any information or help about this. |

Most of the stuff I use around here is at least five years old. By the time I get round to UEFI it will be 2017 ! Quote:
Have you tried the Grub mailing list ? Quote:

If UEFI becomes mainstream, there will be a forum here for guys who have locked themselves out of their own systems in all likelihood, or guys who have a 'genuine' m$.doc that they cannot read on a 'genuine' pc. |
