Ubuntu Sudden Sound Problem

Hi folks,

In the last week I have been noticing sound issues. Today my sound stopped working all together.

I have a dual boot system: Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.10. The sound works fine under XP. My understanding is that there are problems with PulseAudio.

Ive checked all the obvious things such as "mute" etc. My guess would be a corrupted sound card driver, but im not sure of the best way to remove it and reinstall it.

have you checked the alsamixer in a terminal... is alsaconf still available for use on Ubuntu from a term?

Yeah its available. I checked it out and was able to bring up the gui. The settings appear to look fine.

Ok so I swapped the sound card anyway, and the sound works fine now. I suppose MS and Linux use the sound card in a slightly different way.
