Ubuntu, Puppy not recognizing my SerialATA HD

Hi all,
I have a dual boot system with XP and FC6. I have some 5gig free in sda2, which is my extended partition and an addtional 10gig of unpartitioned space available for 4th primary.

I have this strange problem. Ubuntu(both 5.10 and 6.06LTS) and Puppy 2.11 boot nicely from my DVD drive, I'm able to work with them but both of them are not recognising my Seagate SerialATA harddisk(let alone installing them on it). Also, if I try to boot from DSL 3.1 or 3.2 or Knoppix 5.1.0, both are hanging after displaying the penguin.

Whats the problem?

I've one more question. If I'm installing another linux to my already existing xp-FC6 dual boot system, say Ubuntu or openSUSE, where should I install the boot loader? I mean can it be installed on the /boot I created during FC6. i.e., the linuces share same /boot and also same /home partitions? Please suggest some good links about dual(/multi)booting linuces.

Regards,
SV

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux - Hardware and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

A quick possibility is that it might just be that the kernel module for that controller isn't loaded. As for triple+ booting, yes, a shared /boot is fine, and don't install the bootloader; simply edit your existing one to add the new kernel and new root dir for the new distro.

Cool
