i had exactly the same problem with ubuntu printing to an HP PSC 1310. It looked like it was printing but no ink was being put to the paper. I thought that i had a screwed up usb port so i moved the printer to another computer in the house and set it up to share with ubuntu. (other computer uses archlinux). Everything is fine now. Your post makes me wonder if its not an ubuntu thing ???

It's not. I had the same problem on Debian with my HP Deskjet 3650 or something last summer. Took me ages to find out what was wrong.

Check out this link: http://www.linuxprinting.org/cups-doc.html
Be sure to follow each and every step in the way. Good luck.

I found out what was wrong...

it seemed that i had needed a nother package for printing.. which wasn't installed by default..
so my guess is.. it isn't a ubuntu thing.. but just look under "install applications" search for printer/ cup
and by default (fresh install) you will find a package isn't installed which is needed for printing..

install it.. and everything works fine

but thanks for your posts.. when i was looking on google.. it seemed that i was crazy or something (didn't find much other people who have had the same problem)

regards,
Fatum
