After I swithed to Nvidia driver version 173, Ubuntu doesn't close properly again. Now I have tryed to remove acpi=force from boot/grub/menu.lst, and preliminary it works. I hope that the problem is solved permanently. But you never know ...

No, i did not create that halt file, i just added the line, the rest was generated somehow. i have a lot of software installed on it, may be that's why.

I don't know how most of it all works but i know how to install an os and software, then i try stuff out to see what works and if i stumble upon problems that were not there initially and i can't fix or can't find a fix quick enough i just start over from scratch. basically what i do is first install the os (run updates immediately after) and (if necessary) install drivers and peripherals. once i have that working to a satisfactory level i take a snapshot with clonezilla (excellent software btw) and then it is time to install my favorite software, taking snapshots in between if all continues to work well. i find that works better for me; just place an image back from a time when all last worked fine and try again what you were doing, possibly with more caution. like if your system shuts down properly but fails to come out of hibernation without problems, then i just don't use that feature and don't worry about it. sometimes these problems fix themselves over time (upgrades). i prefer using synaptic for installing software as it has a feature that lets you create a file with installed software on that system. very handy when reinstalling the same apps on multiple non identical machines.

The problem now is back.
When I disable Powernowd, so Ubuntu will not close properly always longer.

It happens about. 50/50 of the times, I shut down my PC.
What is the problem now due?
It can not be true that you can not disable Powernowd without problem comes back ...
