I have Ubuntu installed on my Wifes laptop and sound is not working.
According to Windows, the sound cards are:
Conexant High Def Smart Audio 221
Intel High Def Audio HDMI
I know this is two seperate devices, but I am no sound expert. I don't know how to proceed or even what device to try to set up. What should I be doing?

You may have the same problem as teggrr on an a nearby thread.
If you are using Ubuntu 8.04 or 8.10 I suspect PulseAudio is the problem.
