Ubuntu 9.10 Boot problems

Hello all!
Heres my dilemma: I turn on my netbook and the screen freezes after BIOS and stays black with flashing white line in top left. So I hard power it off and turn it on a second time. This time I get faced with a Grub menu and I select my Ubuntu 9.10. This time I make it to the white Ubuntu logo in the center of a black screen and it sits there for a few minuted and then shows a bunch of error messages loading modem-manager. I hit Ctrl + Alt + Del and restart again. This third time I select my Grub option and it boots fine. The confusing part is that this is the regular for my netbook. Everytime I wish to power it on I have to do it 3 times, same points. Here's what I have done:

1) First I checked dmesg of course, but I could find no mention of modem-manager or anything else out of wack for that matter.

2) I enabled Boot logging via /etc/default/bootlogd though it doesn't actually log anything in /var/log/boot .....confusing?

3) I searched all over the internet, including launchpad, for bugs related to my situation and found nothing.

Heres some system info that may be of some use:

uname -r
Code:

Have you tried adding acpi=off and noapic to the end of you grub prompt?

Might work, just guessing. Normally I try that, and flick around in the BIOS looking for anything that might interfere.

Also, has it always done this?

It actually only started doing this since I upgraded the kernel. Which unfortunately I have to keep because my wlan is not supported prior to this version.

That doesn't make sense though, the kernel is only kicking in after the grub prompt. Half of your issues are before you get to grub.

Go figure. OK Well how can I go about solving the modem-manager error after grub? I'll work on that first.

Maybe it's a service? Have you had a look in /etc/init.d?
