Ubuntu 9.04 not recognizing soundcard

I'm pretty new at linux, but I've had a few weeks' worth of experience. I have a new Toshiba Satellite A505-S6969 that I installed jaunty on. Most of it is going smoothly, except my sound is of extremely low volume. I went into the ALSA mixer through the terminal and the master is up to 100, everything is as loud as it will go and the sound is still very low.

Here is the output of lspci:

Any and all help is appreciated. And one more thing that might be of use - when I play mp3's the sound is much higher than if I try to watch a youtube video or any kind of video (if this is of any significance).

Right click on the loudspeaker icon on your top panel and choose "Open Volume Control". Check that the PCM (pulse-code modulation) slider is up on both channels (join or separate the channels by clicking on the symbol below the slider).

Sound and video applications have their own volume controls which you can adjust independently from the master volume control on the desktop.

To identify sound chips on your computer type "aplay -l" (without the quotes) in a terminal window.
