Ubuntu 12.04 - Can´t burn on ThinkPad T43 - burner says no disk in the drive.
I run Ubuntu 12.04 on ThinkPad t43.
When I try to burn an iso, the burners insist that there is no disk in the drive.
Is it my hardware or software?
When there is a blank CD-RW then I get:
*-cdrom
description: DVD reader
product: RW/DVD GCC-4242N
vendor: HL-DT-ST
physical id: 1
bus info: scsi@1:0.0.0
logical name: /dev/cdrom
logical name: /dev/cdrw
logical name: /dev/dvd
logical name: /dev/sr0
version: 0J05
capabilities: removable audio cd-r cd-rw dvd
configuration: ansiversion=5 status=nodisc
When there is a cd in it:
In cheap cdroms and to a lesser extent, dvdroms these days there are terribly fine adjustments at the laser head. As these drift, (we're talking parts per million here) the cd reads differently. Experiment, and when it gets to the stage that it reads a moulded disc but throws out a cdrom, get another. There are places which specialise in selling laptop parts to the trade. Go there.
