two seperate hard drives

Right now I have a Windows XP machine running and I would like to install a second hardrive that will run Fedora.

I would like to be able to boot up the computer and have the option of selecting from which harddrive to boot from (XP or Fedora).

I have only done something like this with a dual boot system where both OS's are resident on the same harddrive, so I am not sure how this works with the boot loader as well as how to set the harddrives (Master..Slave..???).

Can anyone give me any advice or direct me to a source that will explain how to do this?

I used to have my computer the exact same. Set Fedora as master, and just have Grub have the option for XP

So those are PATA drives you have? In that case, you should be fine as long as you tell the installer to put GRUB on the MBR. As long as you don't invert the disk order (which you could do), it isn't any different from installing both OSes on a single drive.

My suggestion is that you set the BIOS to boot from the new drive. After installing Fedora, then add lines to grub to boot XP. This way, if you ever decide to remove Fedora, your XP boot won't be borked and you can just switch the BIOS back to booting that drive.

Wow old thread, but here goes in case anyone sees: So how do we "add lines to grub" ?? What are these lines. I wish I knew Linux better than I do. One day.
