Hello again,

This is getting a lot harder than I originaly thought! Now let's start from where we left it.

First of all I didn't have any luck with Knoppix. After typing lspci I get a "Brooketree corporation Bt878" thingy but then I try xawtv, select PAL and country but then I get the message:
"Xawtv will now try to find all available TV channels.." etc and then "The installation was aborted"
On Knoppix I can see /dev/video, /dev/video0. /dev/video1, ... /dev/video63

On the other hand I first tried to do what you told me. It seems like I do have a link in FC3 because after ln -s ... I get the message that file already exists...

I also tried the cp -rf --reply=yes /dev/vide* .... but no results again and finaly rebooted with the original kernel and once again no luck.

Although it might seem a total failure to someone else I'm still pleased, I think I'm learning some stuff here, slowly and painfuly I am affraid for you, but I'm very grateful for all the help I have received! I am going to try to build a new kernel as you suggested and keep everyone posted if any progress is made.

Now it works!

Hello again!

I updated the kernel to 2.6.10-1.760_FC3 that got out recently and now tv works.

So if this could help anyone having the same tv tuner:

In /etc/rc.d/rc.local I have added the lines:
/sbin/modprobe bttv
/sbin/modprobe btaudio

And in /etc/modprobe.conf:
options bttv card=78 radio=1 bttv_verbose=2 tuner=-1

And it only worked with the 2.6.10-1.760_FC3 kernel

I don't know if this is the best way to make it work, or if any other options are better, if anyone knows some better solution please tell me.

Till then I hope this one helps someone else.

Thanks to everyone!

The V4L developer stop supporting 2.4.x kernel version but continue on to 2.6.x kernel version. I compiled 2.6.10 kernel and my video capture card worked better, but my video capture card uses a SAA7133 chip. My video capture card worked in 2.4.x kernel version but the sound will not switch from the tuner to the line-in when using the composite or S-Video. Though it does help to check the CARDLIST file in the kernel documentation directory before buying a video capture card.

You do not need to add lines in rc.local to load modules up. In /etc/modprobe.conf add
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 bttv

I do not know for btaudio but for alsa btaudio place the lines below in /etc/modprobe.conf:
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-bt87x
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

Quote:
As root ' ln -s /dev/video0 /dev/video ' Being FC3 system it may not restore that link after reboot. You will need to copy the dev/video to /etc/udev/devices. use ' cp -rf --reply=yes /dev/vide* /etc/udev/devices '. Out of options at this time till I see what you get with Knoppix.
You should not need to make an symbolic link if you pass an option when running xawtv or tvtime.
