I am trying to set up a PC based home entertainment center, I figure the DVD/CD Player are easy, (I'll probably use a DVD-ROM so replacing the VCR is not a big deal (would use just a DVD/CDRW but Im not sure how much time you can get on a CD).
I was wondering if anyone here had used a good TV tuner card and a AM/FM radio tuner card under linux, noe that is not a nightmare to configure (im a total newb).
If you go with the mainstream cards, such as the Hauppage cards. I'm not sure about the WinTV cards though. I have an ATI TV card (part of an AIWPro) that isn't supported as per default, but there are plenty of good docs and files to get it working.
I am using a WinTV from Haupauge in one machine and a Haupauge TV/Radio tuner in another. Both work great, They were always recognised in just about every distro I have tried, Mandrake, RedHat, and Suse. Xawtv runs them and has a radio tuning software also.
The cheap $49 WinTv at any staples store will work just fine.
