Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question TV-Out with ATI Radeon 9200 SE on Fedora Core 4

Good day,

I have a slight problem in the sense that my monitor is with my folks and I can only run my computer on my television at the moment, but as soon as it gets to the login or even into Gnome, it's like a messed up signal giving a lot of lines over the screen etc.

I would like to know if possible, how to activate tv-out from the terminal or even to just enable remote desktop connection through the terminal as I can access the machine via putty on network though. (Have a work issued laptop)

Can anyone please assist?

Thanks

Use framebuffer, but you are not going to like the quality of the text on the tv. You need a font that complies to the 4:2:1 for easy reading. Another alternative is setting up VNC or TightVNC.

I would like to do the vnc/tightvnc path, but how do I do that thru command line?

See pc is currently connected to tv on a permanent basis and I do not have an extra screen. I started vncserver in the command line, but what it does is it just gives me another terminal window like an x-term or sumthing. I can get a terminal by using putty, so I want to get the graphical interface working.

What my main aim is, is to get that box up and running as a server for myself to backup on, but I do not want to use Windows on that box, only Linux so that I can learn Linux in the process.

Thanks for you assistance though Electro, I really appreciate it.
