Tv Out problem on NVidia card

I have a 128mb Nvidia FX 5200 Graphics card and cannot enable the TV out function for it. I am relatively new to Linux so it is not so easy to work out the problems.

I am currently using SuSe 10.1 distribution and have followed the steps on the Nvidia site for installing the most recent driver. Added a installation source through Yast but that wont let me install one of the programs due to errors, if I proceed, when I restart Linux will not load the GUI and I am not experienced enough to recover the situation and end up having to reinstall the whole linux OS.

I tried to us NVTV, anything I try to configure or if I try to set the TV out on function, I get a segmentation error and it basically does not work. In the driver detail for the Graphics card, it says Nvidia 5200 but no 3d enable, not sure if this has any bearing on the situation. I even tried a manual install of the nvidia driver using the method for Suse 9 but this comes up with errors also.

I wonder if anyone has a solution to this problem, if I can get the Tv-out working then there is never a need to load up XP again and I will be overjoyed.

i am relatively new to linux but i know hardware pretty good if i am not mistaken the only way to get the tv out to work on that card is to hook up the tv out port and un hook the VGA port that is the way i have to do it in windows or DOS

the only video card that i have gotten to do tv out and VGA out at the same time was a nForce 2 on board video card but it burn the north bridge out in about one year running the dual outputs was getting the chip up to around 170 degrees F

Tv Out

Well, the card works on Windows, I can get monitor and TV working together, or just one or the other with the Nvidia settings on the XP driver.

With Linux it is a different matter, if i boot the computer with TV on, I can get everything perfect, boot screen etc. Once it hits the desktop the screen scrambles. I am connected with Composite video.

post your xorg.conf

1. you have to have installed the Nvidia drivers, you are using SuSe, so use YaST to install them.
2. you have to manually configure the xorg.conf (unless you are running a real old suse and still have XF86Free.conf)

the xorg.conf should be in:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf
