TV Out feature of Aopen PG80/DVD Video Card
 

Was hoping someone out there would have some information on a bargain bin video card I picked up two months ago.

This card has a D-Sub, S-video, and Composite connectors and is a AGP 2X SIS 6326 video card. It has 8mb of onboard memory, but from what I've read on the SIS 6326 card, it can only address 4mb of it.

The D-Sub (VGA) connector works fine in any linux distro I try on it. The TV output will work fine on the computer up to the point the operating system gets to the log in screen. Meaning when viewing the video through the tv output, you can see the BIOS screen, the operating system load the unix code, but once it gets to the log in screen, the tv out feature turns off.

Searching www.google.com/linux on this card didn't find me any specific information I needed to know on how to get the tv output mode to be the default video output.

I've tried editing the xorg.conf file to enter NTSC 640x480 resolution, but the card shuts off every time it gets to the log in screen on the TV output. (Composite or S-video).

It was my understanding this card can only support one video output connection, meaning it can't display on two monitors in clone mode.

xorg SIS driver and the Aopen Museum .

Aopen apparently does not have information on the Aopen pg80/DVD card specifically.

The main distro I have tried with this Card is Ubuntu 5.10 Breezy. As I have said, the VGA connector works fine, the S-video connector displays fine up to the gdm log in screen. Just before the log in screen, the display turns off.

I understand this card is so old, you can't even play Quake on on it. However it can play back a DVD fine. I felt like trying this card because I was interested in the TV output feature it had. I honestly thought it was a 32mb card, but was disappointed it was more realistically a 4mb card.

My hope is getting the tv output working fully in able to use it in my budget media pc.

I'd rather not have to resell it on ebay as I doubt I'll get more than a $1.00 for it.

Maybe everyone viewing this is focussing my question on the video card specifically. I was hoping someone would have specific information on configuring xorg to work with the TV out Feature of any video card.

I would seriously like to know how to configure xorg to use the tv out connection as the default video output source in clone mode.

The Aopen card can do clone mode I think.
