TV card bttv+v4l problem

Hi, I use Slackware 9.1 and kernel 2.4.22, I use a TV card with bt848 chipset. I almost tried everything with bttv 0.7(comes with the kernel) and v4l. All my computer do is freeze.
Now, I want to try to compile a nedd module of bttv, 0.9, and use v4l2.
I just need some explication of waht I must do.
-Do I have to recompile my kernel module without the bt848 support and v4l?
-Or I have just to compile the new module and load it.
-I read about some patch for v4l2, but im very confused, here is the link:bytesex.org/patches/
there are 3 directory for kernel 2.4.22, i dont know want it mean. I dont know how to install those patch, and what they do.

I hope someone will answer all my question or try to, thx guys
