trouble format USB hard drive

I have a 20Gb USB hard drive that I am using to back up my family's data before Installing MEPIS on their computers, and I cannot seem to format it right. I am trying to format this USB hard drive and put a FAT32 partition on it, but fdisk never seems to write the partition correctly. It has an error about not being able to read the partition table after writing it.

Thanks much,

Jeremy Pedersen

Can you post the exact error? Honestly, it might be easier to just format the volume from a windows box if you want to go fat32, especially as some of the various windows 2k/xp revs have issues reading a Linux formated fat32, or at least I've seen that a number of times, and I've never ever gotten a Mac on OSX* to read a Linux formated and fdisk'd fat32 correctly. There's some voodoo there that its probably best to fall back to Doze on.

Cheers,

Finegan
