Trident Microsystems CyberBlade/i1 - direct rendering support.

I cannot seem to get direct rendering to work on my graphics card although it's supported by the new 2.6 kernel according to the documentation. I am by no means an expert it's worth pointing out - Xorg appears to load the required module but according to glxinfo it is not working. Can any of you guys shed some light on it? at the moment I can't even watch a film.

Currently running.
P3 800Mhz on board graphics and NO AGP SLOT!!! cheers.

Question same problem here

Hello!

(I hope you wont kill me for taking this old thread up.)

I have the problems with getting Direct Rendering with that card working too. But acording to some documentations and sources (for example Stepmania compatibility page) this card is capable of DRI. I have old laptop COmpaq Armada 110 with quite similar configuration as your system:
Code:
$ lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8601 [Apollo ProMedia] (rev 05)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8601 [Apollo ProMedia AGP]
00:07.0 ISA bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C686 [Apollo Super South] (rev 22)
00:07.1 IDE interface: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C586A/B/VT82C686/A/B/VT823x/A/C PIPC Bus Master IDE (rev 10)
00:07.2 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82xxxxx UHCI USB 1.1 Controller (rev 10)
00:07.4 Bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C686 [Apollo Super ACPI] (rev 30)
00:07.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C686 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 20)
00:09.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82557/8/9 [Ethernet Pro 100] (rev 09)
00:09.1 Serial controller: Agere Systems LT WinModem
00:0a.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1410 PC card Cardbus Controller (rev 01)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Trident Microsystems CyberBlade i1 (rev 6a)
I'm running Debian Testing, with kernel from Debian packages repository (via apt-get) version 2.6.18-4-686. I also have loaded all required modules for DRI: agpgart, via_agp, trident etc.
DRI is not working, glxinfo output is here:

Im using trident driver. I also have install xlibmesa-dri, xlibmesa-gl and xlibmesa-glu packages which are required for DRI. Here are parts of my xorg.conf
Code:
..........
Section "Module"
	Load	"i2c"
	Load	"bitmap"
	Load	"ddc"
	Load	"dri"
	Load	"extmod"
	Load	"freetype"
	Load	"glx"
	Load	"int10"
	Load	"vbe"
	Load "GLcore"
EndSection
..........
Section "Device"
	Identifier	"Trident Microsystems CyberBlade i1"
	Driver "trident"
	BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection
.........
Section "DRI"
	Mode	0666
EndSection
The highlighted line is supposed to get the DRI working, but it doesnt and I dont know why. But after adding it to configuration file I experienced interesting behaviour of glxgears (those colored spinning gears ) - when I start it, it runs smoothly for like 2-3 seconds (as it runs on computers with DRI enabled) and than its stucks. Thats why I'm posting it here - maybe its a small step toward getting it really working and it may help someone (if someone is still using such an old hardware and needs / wants DRI) to make it finally work. I didnt succed...

Please post your Xorg log (/var/log/Xorg.0.log or something like that)
