You might be referring to the review
here. Unfortunately, I don't know how he was able to get these modems working under Linux or with Hylafax. Most winmodems do not work in Linux as manufacturers, in many cases, did not release drivers for them, if I understand correctly.
I think your best course of action would be to get a Linux compatible serial external model or possibly a USB modem, preferably from U.S. Robotics, in my opinion, like the ones
here and
here. You can purchase the USB modem

here. The external modem you can purchase
here. For an external modem, you would need to make sure your systems have serial ports. If not, you might be able to use this
adapter along with the standard
serial cable.
