I am about to build one of our new web servers and this is going to be the first dual Linux Server I have ever done. I have done my research and it looks like the best solution for the Motherboard is the Tyan Tiger AMD 760 MPX . I am going to be using Red Hat 7.3, and I was wondering if anyone knows if this new chipset will work with Linux. If you can help I would greatly appreciate it.
Josh
I have the tyan tiger mp s2460 mb...n its sort of working. i had a problem getting both mi amd 1800 recognized but it turned out to be a problem with the placements of mi nics i am running rh 7.3 n as long as i dont do ne heavy network trafic im fine. i think it more of an issue of drivers for mi cards n not the mb or cpu
I've 2466n-4m with dual mp2000+. Works fine in Slackware 8.0 but onboard NIC not working in Slackware 8.1 . Think this is due to IRQ conflicts. Didn't test on RH though. However, take note of IRQ issues in MS products. Quite a headache.
But, if the everything works, it's good and stable. But, it's HOT!!!
I had to get rid of linux due to all the issues i was having with not being able to burn cds , surf the net, download without my system crashing. recently found out that it was wrong type of memory, agp card, n bios. but mainly i think its overheating!! so i have to look into cooling my tower down. thinking bout water cooling gonna do more research. only problem after my system is stabel in winblows 2k is going to be getting linux drivers for my cards.
Hi, int
I think your problem is with configurations and drivers besides your heat problem. I don't have problems with any of the items you mentioned. Heat problem is a real headache though.
Anyway, I'm not a supporter of RedHat, can't comment much on your RH configurations. Why not try leaving your casing open and see the result?
Your onboard NIC works well in W2K??
no onboard nic. few others with same mb have posted the same problem on other forums. according to them it could be heat, my sb audigy mp3+ soundcard, r the powersupply!! i think its just the bad mb tyan will never see ne more money from me. with the case open still get random reboots sys locks but not as often as with the system closed. i installed some more fans to help air movement but im just gonna look into building another server with a better products. do it right this time research first then purchase. gonna lookinto watercooling to tackel heat problems its much quiter than fans
