Thinkpad and Mdk 10.1

I've had this ancient IBM Thinkpad 770ED for about 3 years now. In that time I have never had any trouble with Linux on it until recently. For some reason Mdk 10.1 does not detect my NP100 card (Ethernet Everywhere--I know, it's a piece of junk). I have been reading all day in forums like this for clues as to why it's not detected any longer. From what I know, it's supposed to use the:

pcnet_cs driver for the card itself and
yenta_socket for the controller

I have no qualms about going down to CompUSA and spending $30 on a card that I KNOW is in fact supported by Linux but I'm starting to wonder if the controller is not supported either (in any case, no pccards will work at all). If anyone knows anything about getting this to work on the newer Linux distro versions, please let me know. Thanks for the help!

I'm still not going to put W2k on it no matter what... I'll donate it first :)
