I'm using Ubuntu Edgy 6.10 and I have a Creative XFI sound card. I know it doesn't work on linux yet and that sucks because I spend most of my time on it and I hate the integrated sound I have to resort to.
But I wonna use my 5.1 surround sound speakers.
So my question to all of you is what is the best sound card that would give me 5.1 surround sound?
hmm, i seem to get along ok using a creative soundblaster live! mp3. it has a shiny digital out which plugs into a cambridge soundworks desktop theater system and provides *awesome* sound. i suspect the card is ridiculously old and naff now, but it sure does the job.
The best sound card is really not Creative Labs X-Fi. It is actually Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 HiFi. I have Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 and it sounds a lot better than any Creative Labs sound cards.
Professionals do not use Creative Labs sound cards because they are medium to low end sound card company.
Buy an OEM version of Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. It actually sounds better than Creative Labs Sound Blaster LIVE and Audigy 2 cards. Also Turtle Beach Santa Cruz is easier to setup for six channels and recording audio.
Listening to music with 6 channels screws up the sound stage and colors the sound. I recommend two channels for music and use six channels or more for movies.
Would the Turtle Beach Montego card still work very well on Ubuntu Edgy 6.10? I really like this card because it has optical outs which I would love to use with future speakers.
If this card works I would totally sell my XFI card in a heart beat.
