Temporarily Disable ThinkPad Edge 13 touchpad on Fedora 15

Hello
I installed Fedora 15 on my Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13, and I am having grave issues with me touchpad: The pad is very gentle, and so - interrupts my typing.
I want to be able to disable it temporarily (just like many other computers can - with use of a function key). A solution that will disable it whenever an external mouse is connected would also be excellent.
"Disable when typing" option in the trackpad settings does nothing.
All help that I could find lead to nothing.

Please help

Tal

Works on my Dell. You will notice some lag if you are typing and then grab the mouse. Same applies if you mix keyboard commands and mouse in general usage (not just typing).
Trade-offs, always trade-offs ...
