Syncing Newton 130 via USB-Serial Adapter

I want connect my Newton 130 with my Laptop and I don't have any serial ports. I bought an USB - Serial adapter connected to my Laptop (MDK 10), but I can't figure out how to get Linux to recognize the adapter. I tried creating Symlinks to the serial device, but that did not work. I am using newtonlink to connect to the Newton.

Oh, I made a mistake, I am using unixnpi to connect and send packages to the Newton. The readme states that I need to have a symlink to the serial device or set it in the config file. I chose to set the config to the device assuming that the USB adapter would recognize as /dev/ttyS0, that did not work, so I tried a couple of different ones (/dev/ttyS*). Those did not work either. Does the adapter use a normal Serial Device?
