sync speed evolution

I need help quickening the sync speed of my Visor with Evolution. I am able to sync the pda using an USB connection under RH9 (kernel version: 2.4.20-31.9). Under Gnome, I have no trouble syncing with pilot-xfer or jpilot - and both sync at pretty quick speeds (115,200). I've never been able to get kpilot to work and so do not use it.

I rely on Evolution (1.4.6), and am able to perform a sync, but it is very slow (by an order of 30 to 45 minutes rather than the 1 or 2 minutes gpilot takes). How can I speed up the sync speed with Evolution? Thank you for any help or suggestions!
