I am a linux newbie and am just experimenting with the different distros. So far I have tried Fedora Core 2 and Suse 9.1. The tap-click functionality hasn't worked so far on any of them but passing "psmouse.proto=imps" to the kernel has worked so far. Its not working on Mandrake. I added the line to both the Lilo and Grub conf files and it still won't work. I have seen the drivers but I don't have the knowledge to get them working. If anyone knows why the psmouse fix isn't working or where I can get some good step by step instructions for the drivers I would really appreciate it.

Well, the problem is fixed but I don't understand how. I added the line to the config files yesterday and restarted. Tried changing from Lilo to Grub. Nothing worked. But last night I turned my computer completely off and now this morning, it worked. Does anyone know why it would take a full shutdown and not just a restart? Also, does anyone know why it the linux installation messes up the touchpad in my Windows partition too?

Just installed Mandrake 10 on my laptop in a second partition (behind Windows XP) and it worked beautifully. But - like mepaco - it killed the touchpad in my Windows installation. What's going on? Windows just can't find it any more.

I've got a feeling that Mandrake's ACPI changed the device settings for the touchpad, but I need to know how to get in there and change them back. Is there any software for Linux that lets you get down and dirty with ACPI?
