I have a dual PIII motherboard (2 x 600MHz) with an onboard Symbios 53c875 SCSI adaptor. Connected to the adapter is a Compaq SCSI drive enclosure from an ML370 server (mobo on the server died
) There are 5 drives in the enclosure, in hot-swap caddies. The lights on the caddies flash at boot, but do not come on at all whilst in the OS. This lead me to think it may be that the driver is not powering up the drives (or something similar) however I can't find much about the driver.

It's a Compaq 271921-001 5 bay hotplugable drive cage (just taken the drives out to find the serial number)

If I only connect a single drive to the controller (without using the drive enclosure) I have exactly the same problem

However I am unable to access the disks. No devices are created in /dev/ and MAKEDEV sda creates some device nodes, but when I try to use them it just tells me that there is 'No such device or address.' I am reasonably experienced at using Linux, but I haven't really played with SCSI before, so sorry if I am missing something really obvious.
