Suse 9.3 with Marvell Yukon Gigabit

Hello!!!
I just have installed on my new notebook Asus A6Va Suse 9.3, everything went normally during installation. After that i went to suse internet works fine, until i restart. After i have restarted i went to windows, the ethernet board works just if i have no cable plugged in. I know that suse is "eating" the marvell giga ethernet cards, so every time i go to suse, if iwant to have internet again, i have to take of the batery off my notebook, e the ac adapter, after that it works again just fine.

Does anyone knows what's going on, and how to solve this problem?

Thks

I am the same. I really wonder whether SUSE could affect the hardware's behavior under other OS. It could write something into the ethernet card or the mainboard?

In windows there is an option in the power management "power off the device". something like that.
It uses ACPI/APM. In linux you can use that option too.

A friend of mine had the same problem with Solaris.
Maybe SUSE has power management enabled and turns the card off (since you have a laptop it seems a logical answer)

I can't say for sure but check maybe it is that.

I have exactly the same problem, with a brand new ASUS M6Va, shipped with the same Ethernet Gigabit chip. I use Mandriva cooker, and also have to shutdown the computer while running Linux, in order Windows doesn't says me the cable is unplugged...

Hi !!

Excellent new: I've solved the problem ! In fact, it doesn't come from Linux, but from the Windows driver ! Install the latest version (http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDow...oad-13760.html) of the driver under Windows, and now all works perfectly :-)

Excellent!!! It's solved!
In fact you can also install the driver by Windows Updates.

Hi, do you get sound?

I installed alsa driver, but still no sound. In yast, it said:

An error occured during the installation of

82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW(ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller

The kernel module snd-hda-intel for sound support could not be loaded.
This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO
or IRQ parameters.

I have no problem with the sound running Alsa 1.0.9 (doesn't work with older versions), under Debian/Sid and a kernel 2.6.13 (2.6.12 required for snd-hda-intel). Works perfect for me on my ASUS M6Va.
